Carrier 331709-758 is branded as the Thermal Expansion Valve Kit to be used for Carrier HVAC systems that use R-410A refrigerant with the 5-ton capacities. This component is approximately 3 x 4.9 x 4.5 inches in size and It is a necessary part of the system. The TXV itself contains a bimetallic element that works like a miniature thermostat. This element changes its size as the temperature in the evaporator coil changes and thus controls the flow of the refrigerant. At some point, when the temperature of the coil goes low, the valve give space for more refrigerant to circulate and heat up.
