It is normally installed below the cooling coil found in an A/C unit or heat pump. When warm air moves over this cool evaporator coil, moisture condenses and falls into the pan. In turn, it appears that this condensed water will then be sent through a channel of drains, making sure no harm comes from it while stopping mold growth.
