The Rheem-Ruud 43-17075-05 start capacitor is an essential component of HVAC systems. It is a cylindrical-like device which can store electrical energy for a short span of time. Unfortunately, this demands that the compressor motor of the HVAC system take a bigger current surge when it initially begins to operate. In addition, starting torque is also raised by electrical energy surge from the start capacitor. After motor reaches operational speed, capacitor is turned off. This specific start capacitor is designed for application only in Rheem and Ruud heat pumps and air conditioners.
